Christmas Wish list...so you have all had plenty of advanced notice

1. Copy of the Hunger Games.  I know I am behind.  Reading anything other than classic literature requires energy on my part, but I must read this one before the movie comes out March 23, 2012!

2. Passport for travel abroad.  {Travel wish list 2012 to come later, but considering London, Paris and Rome the top priorities. Suggestions appreciated.}  2011 has been a year of travel within the continental U.S., for 2012, I need to explore while I, or if, can.

Sweaters, Ralph Lauren, are always appreciated.

Summer Reading Program

Do not forget to visit your local public library and sign up for their summer reading program.

I can think of no better way
To spent a summer day
Than with a book by the beach,
While I turn my wintry skin peach.

Thoreau, Poe, Emile Rousseau
All at your local public library.

*And don’t forget to cool off with an ice cream at Chippy’s Ice Cream Parlor*

Mother's Day

I have learned more about hubbie and I this week.

I had to go to the VA where I learned my blood sugar was a 55, 70 being low, meaning I may be hypoglycemic, which would explain some of my erratic behaviors and hummingbird eating habits of needing to eat all the time.  What other illness requires you to eat candy?  How cool is that?  This is possibly a result of the high stress of being a mommie of all trades.

Hubbie said, I need to eat his diet and he needs to eat mine, as I get to eat all the carbs I want.

Because hubbie is from the Germanic tribes with his coppery beard and is "SSG Daryl Odom," also known as "Odin" This weekend we are absolutement going to see Thor for my Mother's Day request.  Odin is the god of war and death, of wisdom and poetry, Thor was his son.  Maybe he’s is going to cast out our teenaged son {giggle}.  Our little Thor was obsessed with hammers when he was little too.

Cristina by Robert Browning

I am particularly fond of Robert Browning's poetry.  Odd to have found a poem by him with my name as the title, only a slight spelling variation, but flattering still.

I.

She should never have looked at me

If she meant I should not love her!

There are plenty ... men, you call such,

I suppose ... she may discover

All her soul to, if she pleases,

And yet leave much as she found them:

But I'm not so, and she knew it

When she fixed me, glancing round them,

II.
What? To fix me thus meant nothing?

But I can't tell (there's my weakness)

What her look said!---no vile cant, sure,

About ``need to strew the bleakness

``Of some lone shore with its pearl-seed.

``That the sea feels''---no strange yearning

``That such souls have, most to lavish

``Where there's chance of least returning.''

III.
Oh, we're sunk enough here, God knows!

But not quite so sunk that moments,

Sure tho' seldom, are denied us,

When the spirit's true endowments

Stand out plainly from its false ones,

And apprise it if pursuing

Or the right way or the wrong way,

To its triumph or undoing.

IV.
There are flashes struck from midnights,

There are fire-flames noondays kindle,

Whereby piled-up honours perish,

Whereby swollen ambitions dwindle,

While just this or that poor impulse,

Which for once had play unstifled,

Seems the sole work of a life-time

That away the rest have trifled.

V.

Doubt you if, in some such moment,

As she fixed me, she felt clearly,

Ages past the soul existed,

Here an age 'tis resting merely,

And hence fleets again for ages,

While the true end, sole and single,

It stops here for is, this love-way,

With some other soul to mingle?

VI.

Else it loses what it lived for,

And eternally must lose it;

Better ends may be in prospect,

Deeper blisses (if you choose it),

But this life's end and this love-bliss

Have been lost here. Doubt you whether

This she felt as, looking at me,

Mine and her souls rushed together?

VII.

Oh, observe! Of course, next moment,

The world's honours, in derision,

Trampled out the light for ever:

Never fear but there's provision

Of the devil's to quench knowledge

Lest we walk the earth in rapture!

---Making those who catch God's secret

Just so much more prize their capture!

VIII.

Such am I: the secret's mine now!

She has lost me, I have gained her;

Her soul's mine: and thus, grown perfect,

I shall pass my life's remainder.

Life will just hold out the proving

Both our powers, alone and blended:

And then, come next life quickly!

This world's use will have been ended.

Much appreciated,

Best preppy blogs

If you are a new blogger, or want to find the best blogs, here are my suggestions. Most of these are inspired by Beth Dunn or Alice Frost Richardson's, whose blogging savvy I someday hope to reach.
  1. *preppy little dress"
  2. Brunch at Saks
  3. Chippy's Ice Cream Parlor- mine, not beautiful yet
  4. Manor Lane
  5. Muffy Martini
  6. Prissy and Preppy Flamingo
  7. Social Climbers-this is Beth's, one of my two faves
  8. Summer is a verb- Alice Frost Richardson's
  9. Summer Wind
  10. Patti Trostle's- when I find it, she is the best artist. She painted my mother's portrait.
These cuties little key fobs are items we are discussing selling at Chippy's Ice Cream Parlor. Tell me what you think.

Ivanhoe by Sir Walter Scott

As much as I love ice cream, I really love literature! After reading "Little Women" by Louisa May Alcott, who I now realize was a genius, although she had to mask her gifts at that time, I added to my reading list on http://www.goodreads.com/ "Ivanhoe" by Sir Walter Scott and "Pilgrim's Progress" by John Bunyan. So far, the ruling class nobles are the Normans and the land owner, franklins are the Anglo-Saxon's in England during the medieval times. More to come!
