Celebrating Our 10th Wedding Anniversary

Arriving at our 10th wedding anniversary is an absolute miracle.  My husband and I are a dual military family, meaning we are both soldiers.  We have completed four deployments, two each, and numerous military schools.  Since we are not full-time soldiers, we have also had our civilian careers, and educational responsibilities.

Add to this, we are a blended family meaning, he was divorced with a daughter.  I was divorced with a son.  We came together to make one family, and raise our children together.

Plus, we opened Chippy’s Ice Cream Parlor in 2008.  Many people claim opening a business together can be the end of a friendship, or a marriage.  For us, it has brought us closer together.

My husband is the greatest son to his mother, father to our children, my best friend, and life partner.

Thank you for your love and patience with me over the years.

Summah time

While the girls are inventing Chocolate Waffle cones at Chippy's, hubbie is taking me to our favorite spot for dinner in the dress he bought me for Mother's Day. We also went to see the new X-Men movie.  I adore all the Marvel Comic book hero movies out right now, but did you notice, none of the heros are from the U.S., except one?

Of course, I had to pick some fresh strawberries.  I grew these.

Washington, DC on Cardinal 50 via Amtrak

Hubbie has always wanted to take a train trip.  Over Memorial Day weekend (actually for about a week), we went to Washington, DC to catch the end of the cherry blossom season, visit our representatives and take cubbie and friend to the museums.  With lessons learned from this train trip, we may go to Chicago, or New York via train next time.

Mother's Day

I have learned more about hubbie and I this week.

I had to go to the VA where I learned my blood sugar was a 55, 70 being low, meaning I may be hypoglycemic, which would explain some of my erratic behaviors and hummingbird eating habits of needing to eat all the time.  What other illness requires you to eat candy?  How cool is that?  This is possibly a result of the high stress of being a mommie of all trades.

Hubbie said, I need to eat his diet and he needs to eat mine, as I get to eat all the carbs I want.

Because hubbie is from the Germanic tribes with his coppery beard and is "SSG Daryl Odom," also known as "Odin" This weekend we are absolutement going to see Thor for my Mother's Day request.  Odin is the god of war and death, of wisdom and poetry, Thor was his son.  Maybe he’s is going to cast out our teenaged son {giggle}.  Our little Thor was obsessed with hammers when he was little too.

The Wedding of the Century

Daryl Odom, Prince Charming

Watching William and Kate's wedding makes me cry for many reasons.  One of which is I watched the wedding of Prince Charles and Diana when I was a child, and I miss Princess Diana.  As a fellow mother, I know she would have wanted to be in attendance and I am sure her son will never overcome the loss.  Alas Princess Diana can rest assure knowing her two young men have grown into fine young gentlemen with good character.  Added to the ensemble is the most beautiful Catherine Middleton, who is anything but middle, instead an elegant, effervescent young lady.  I could only hope my young gentleman will be as successful.
Daryl Odom and Christina Shepard, started dating.

Confessions:  Dating was my favorite part, and we've never stopped dating.

We are so close in heritage, this could be a picture of cousins kissing.

Cristina by Robert Browning

I am particularly fond of Robert Browning's poetry.  Odd to have found a poem by him with my name as the title, only a slight spelling variation, but flattering still.

I.

She should never have looked at me

If she meant I should not love her!

There are plenty ... men, you call such,

I suppose ... she may discover

All her soul to, if she pleases,

And yet leave much as she found them:

But I'm not so, and she knew it

When she fixed me, glancing round them,

II.
What? To fix me thus meant nothing?

But I can't tell (there's my weakness)

What her look said!---no vile cant, sure,

About ``need to strew the bleakness

``Of some lone shore with its pearl-seed.

``That the sea feels''---no strange yearning

``That such souls have, most to lavish

``Where there's chance of least returning.''

III.
Oh, we're sunk enough here, God knows!

But not quite so sunk that moments,

Sure tho' seldom, are denied us,

When the spirit's true endowments

Stand out plainly from its false ones,

And apprise it if pursuing

Or the right way or the wrong way,

To its triumph or undoing.

IV.
There are flashes struck from midnights,

There are fire-flames noondays kindle,

Whereby piled-up honours perish,

Whereby swollen ambitions dwindle,

While just this or that poor impulse,

Which for once had play unstifled,

Seems the sole work of a life-time

That away the rest have trifled.

V.

Doubt you if, in some such moment,

As she fixed me, she felt clearly,

Ages past the soul existed,

Here an age 'tis resting merely,

And hence fleets again for ages,

While the true end, sole and single,

It stops here for is, this love-way,

With some other soul to mingle?

VI.

Else it loses what it lived for,

And eternally must lose it;

Better ends may be in prospect,

Deeper blisses (if you choose it),

But this life's end and this love-bliss

Have been lost here. Doubt you whether

This she felt as, looking at me,

Mine and her souls rushed together?

VII.

Oh, observe! Of course, next moment,

The world's honours, in derision,

Trampled out the light for ever:

Never fear but there's provision

Of the devil's to quench knowledge

Lest we walk the earth in rapture!

---Making those who catch God's secret

Just so much more prize their capture!

VIII.

Such am I: the secret's mine now!

She has lost me, I have gained her;

Her soul's mine: and thus, grown perfect,

I shall pass my life's remainder.

Life will just hold out the proving

Both our powers, alone and blended:

And then, come next life quickly!

This world's use will have been ended.

Much appreciated,

Valentine's Day Movie List

1. Pride and Prejudice with Kiera Knightley

2. The Hair Dresser's Husband a French foreign film, but the ultimate best romance I have ever seen.

3. Shakespeare in Love with Gwenyth Paltrow

4. Gone with the Wind- Gerald O'Hara "It will come to you, this love of the land. There's no gettin' away from it if you're Irish.

5. The Last of the Mohicans- the most romantic scene is when Eric Schweig (Mohican brother) puts his arm around the youngest girl under the waterfall to keep her from being seen.

Surprises pour moi

On my way out the door, some little elf had place a card with a bear on my favorite egg project to remind me of my special day.  I thought that was all, when viola, upon my return, hubbie made a double layer chocolate muffin of love (No penalty for chocolate, food of the goddesses).

Friday, I have a therapeutic massage scheduled at Body Mechanix in Clayton with Julie.  Unfortunately, I will have to miss Poet's meeting with all my besties, a violation of my New Year's Resolution.

Cubbie thought I would love this song.
